Reclaim
the Good Life at Urban Gardens 2004 |
|
| |
 |
|
| |
Are
you yearning for a simpler, healthier and more organic life,
yet love the buzz and excitement of the big smoke? To learn
how you can create your own urban homestead visit the Reclaim
the Good Life Garden at Urban Gardens 2004 (Olympia,
7th – 9th May) and bring a taste of ‘The Good
Life’ to your back yard. |
|
| |
This
year’s show will see Natural Driftwood Sculptures and
established garden designer Kate Darcy, create a stylish garden
that demonstrates how city dwellers can benefit from a more
sustained and self sufficient lifestyle no matter how small
their garden. The garden will also incorporate a range of recycled
products, including stunning driftwood sculptures, which are
naturally crafted by the elements and collected from the lakes
and shores of Western Canada’s flooded valleys. |
|
| |
Combining
aesthetics and relaxation with functionality the Reclaim
the Good Life Garden will create a rural idyll within the
space of a typical town garden. Growing a range of herbs, fruits
and vegetables the garden will demonstrate that, despite the
average city garden being no more than thirty feet long, city
gardeners can still reap the rewards of cultivating their own
produce. As well as having a beautiful space in which to relax
after a hard day at the office, without the hassle of ‘relocation,
relocation’ to the country! |
|
| |
Recycled
wood boxes will be filled with basil, lemon balm, oregano, chives,
chillies and a whole array of other fresh herbs. With runner
beans, tomatoes and peppers growing in the 100% recycled TomTrays,
the urban gardener will find all they need to add that special
something to any culinary dish. |
|
| |
And
it doesn’t stop there. A self sufficient lifestyle wouldn’t
be complete without your own supply of fresh, free range eggs.
The Reclaim the Good Life Garden at Urban Gardens
will give you the first chance to see the revolutionary new
‘eglu’ from Omlet. A stylish chicken coup specifically
designed for urban living, it provides open plan living for
up to three chickens. |
|
| |
Providing
organically reared chickens, ready to lay in their environmentally
friendly coups, along with all the necessary accessories to
ensure a happy and healthy life for your chickens, Omlet
is offering city dwellers the chance to experience the joys
of the ultimate in functional pets. |
|
| |
The
entire garden is constructed using recycled products and topped
off with a stunning range of natural driftwood sculptures
to ensure the space is a beautiful as it is productive. |

About
Natural Driftwood Sculptures |
|
| |
Natural
Driftwood Sculptures Ltd (NDS) is a family enterprise; founded
four years ago to collect and import Western Red Cedar driftwood
sculptures and other reclaimed garden and construction products
from Western Canada. The sculptures are the remnants of the
early 20th Century lumber industry, recovered from British Columbia's
hydro-electricity reservoir lakes. They have been formed by
the effects of the elements and from drifting on the lakes'
surfaces gently rubbing against the shoreline and each other.
The company is managed in the UK by husband and wife team Magnus
and Tracey Harding. The sculptures are retailed through a national
network of stockists and distributors as well as direct via
an online and mail order catalogue. |

About
Kate Darcy |
|
| |
Formerly
a High School Geography teacher, Kate began her design training
in 1998 with the specific aim of becoming involved in a more
creative career. |
|
| |
During
her training Kate developed an interest in the history of design
notably the Italian and French Renaissance garden style and
how both have been re-used and adapted particularly during the
extravagance of the Victorian Period. This has had considerable
influence upon her design style leading to a particular interest
in modern courtyard and formal gardens. This she combines with
her basic philosophy that a garden should be a viewed as a living
room, a place of relaxation and escape from the outside world
filled with natural beauty, colour and fragrance. |
|
| |
In
addition to undertaking large and small domestic projects Kate
was also involved with the restoration of the gardens adjoining
HMP Foston Hall, Uttoxeter with the aim of returning them to
their original Victorian character and style. |
